So eventually a doctor came in to break my water, after which what my pain level quickly rose from moderate to intense. Now at this point I told them I was ready for an epidural whenever they were ready to give me one. I have a lot of respect for moms who have natural births but as for me, I just wanted to be as relaxed as possible during this process. The anesthesiologist came in to give me the epidural. She was awesome and it hardly hurt at all. I could feel it working right away but for some reason it was working a lot better on my left side than my right. I told the nurse and she propped me so that more of the would reach my right side. Then Nathan and I both went to sleep.
I woke up as the nurses came in to check on me, and everyone seemed to think I still had a few hours to kill. So when I began to feel contractions again, this time only on my right side, I didn't think much of it beyond calling the nurse and pushing the little button for more medication. My left side was like a dead fish still, but my right side felt pretty much fully functional. The nurse came in a rolled me all the way to my right side so that gravity could help me get more medication. She decided to check me even though she said I probably still had at least two hours to go.
Much to our surprise our little one was already one her way out. The nurse told me not to push unless we wanted her to deliver the baby. So as we waited for the Dr. to show up I tried really hard to resist the increasingly strong urges of my body. Finally, in walks the Dr. He introduced himself sat down, and 6 minutes later out pops a little human! I was so overwhelmed by the whole thing I don't think I could even begin to process what was happening.
I am so grateful for the Dr. and nurses and the great care they gave us, and that everything went so smoothly. Now we have a beautiful baby girl, Clara Lynn Wecker. She was born at 6:45 am, she weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and she was 19 inches long. She is a true miracle and blessing in our lives!
